Sebaceous neoplasms in Lynch syndrome
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background Sebaceous neoplasms of the skin (SN) are described in the Muir Torre variant of Lynch syndrome (LS). Guidelines recommend evaluating individuals diagnosed with sebaceous adenomas or sebaceous carcinomas for LS with immunohistochemistry (IHC) for mismatch repair (MMR) proteins and/or microsatellite instability analysis (MSI). The assumption has been that SNs with defective MMR are related to LS.

CNS: central nervous system IHC: immunohistochemistry MMR: mismatch repair MTS: Muir-Torre syndrome M uir-Torre syndrome (MTS) is an autosomal-dominant variant of Lynch hereditary cancer syndrome. MTS is defined by sebaceous neoplasms occurring in association with 1 or more internal malignancies. The sebaceous neoplasms that characterize MTS are rare among the general population and include seb...
متن کاملSebaceous skin lesions as clues to hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer.
Cutaneous lesions consonant with Muir-Torre syndrome strongly suggest hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC). Ponti et al. discuss the importance of combining molecular genetic features of the sebaceous neoplasms, including microsatellite instability and immunohistochemistry, with family history, to determine the likelihood of HNPCC. Proof of diagnosis is identification of one of th...
متن کاملIleocecal Adenocarcinoma and Ureteral Transitional Cell Carcinoma with Multiple Sebaceous Tumors and Keratoacanthomas in a Case of Muir-Torre Syndrome
Cutaneous neoplasms including sebaceous tumors, keratoacanthomas, and basal cell carcinomas with sebaceous differentiation can be markers of internal malignancy associated with the Muir-Torre Syndrome (MTS). We report a 56-year-old man with a diagnosis of hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC) and ureteral transitional cell carcinoma who subsequently developed two sebaceous gland neo...
متن کاملMuir-Torre syndrome: case report and review of the literature.
Muir-Torre syndrome (MTS), a subtype of Lynch syndrome II, presents as at least one internal malignancy associated with at least one sebaceous skin tumor. This autosomal-dominant genetic disorder is thought to arise from microsatellite instability. Although not all patients with sebaceous tumors have MTS, even a single biopsy-proven sebaceous adenoma may warrant evaluation for MTS. We report th...
متن کاملMuir–Torre syndrome in a haemodialysis patient
Muir-Torre syndrome (MTS) is a rare inherited cancer syndrome with variable penetrance. MTS follows an autosomal-dominant pattern of inheritance, and is a subtype of Lynch syndrome [formally known as hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC)]. MTS is caused by mutations in one of several mismatch repair genes. Patients typically present with sebaceous neoplasms (sebaceous adenoma, seba...
